How Does Your Exterminator Check For Bed Bugs?

Disinfection of premises from insects and rodents with chemicals. Plumber spray on the background of apartment and pest control

Each Seattle exterminator utilizes a unique system to inspect houses, commercial buildings, public facilities, and government entities for bed bugs. These systems generally target the bed bug’s common hiding places, such as the mattress, box spring, bed linen, upholstered-furniture, closets, carpet, bed frames, wallboard, and floorboard. Bed bugs will also hide behind loose wallpaper, hanging décor, and art frames.

In the early phases of the life cycle, the bed bug will be extremely difficult to detect. The egg is translucent-like in color. The larvae are tiny with a light pink or light red coloration. During the third and fourth larvae stages, the bed bug larvae turn brown with fine hair that looks like “fuzz.”

Our exterminators utilize flashlights and magnifying glasses to search and identify bed bugs. It is crucial to note, bed bugs exhibit nocturnal behavior while not being a full-blown nocturnal insect species. This basically means they are active at night when their hosts are asleep. However, there is one exception to this theory. This exception has to do with the host’s schedule. For example, if the host sleeps during the day, the bed bugs will adapt by feeding during the day and vice versa for a sleep/wake schedule that requires the host to sleep at night.

We also utilize canines to sniff out bed bugs from hard-to-reach hiding places. These animals have been trained to detect bed bug pheromones.
